CMS recently announced that it has updated Sunshine Act/Open Payments data to include financial data submitted by applicable manufacturers and applicable group purchasing organizations (GPOs) since June 30, 2015. The updated data includes payments and transfers of value to physicians and teaching hospitals, as well as physician ownership and investment interests for reporting years 2014 or earlier. CMS updates the Sunshine Act data at least once every year to include submissions that are posted after the most recent publication date.
CMS has greatly improved its Sunshine Act/Open Payments webpage to make it more user friendly. I suggest you take a look for yourself at https://openpaymentsdata.cms.gov/.
The Sunshine Act/Open Payments system will not be available January 21, 2016 through January 26, 2016 while CMS works on system improvements. You will, however, be able to access Sunshine Act/Open Payments data during this period. Registration will also be open for applicable manufacturers, applicable GPOs, physicians and teaching hospitals.
The 2016 Sunshine Act reporting period for 2015 data is approaching fast. I still expect the 2016 reporting period to begin on or about February 1, 2016 and run for 60 days. However, CMS has not yet issued a formal announcement, so I will keep you posted of developments as soon as new information becomes available.
