CMS Releases 2015 Teaching Hospital List and Updates Reporting Thresholds

October 17, 2014
Ruselle W. Robinson

CMS has released the list of teaching hospitals that industry (which includes applicable manufacturers and group purchasing organizations) must use for reporting 2015 payments and other transfers of value.  CMS revises the teaching hospital list every year.  The 2015 list can be found here:  http://www.cms.gov/OpenPayments/Downloads/Teaching-Hospital-List-2014-Open-Payments-Cycle-[October-2014].pdf

The Sunshine Act reporting thresholds for 2015 payments and transfers of value have been adjusted based on the consumer price index.  Any payment or transfer of value in calendar year 2015 that is less than $10.21 need not be reported, unless the aggregate amount “transferred to, requested by, or designated on behalf of” a covered recipient exceeds $102.07.  The 2014 reporting thresholds are $10.18 and $101.75, respectively.

Finally, CMS intends to post 2014 payment and physician ownership data on its website in June 2015.  Based on recent history, we can expect CMS to meet its deadline.
